We have been working closely with St Werburgh’s City Farm since December 2024 to help explore a new masterplan vision for the site.

St Werburghs City Farm is a lively urban farm in the heart of Bristol, where people, animals and nature come together. Founded in 1980 by local residents, it transformed a neglected green space into a place for learning, wellbeing and community.

After over 40 years of use, some of the Farm’s buildings are showing their age and no longer meet the community’s needs. They’re hard to heat, short on space, and difficult for some visitors to access. Despite these challenges, the Farm’s spirit remains strong — and in 2024, the charity secured funding from Bristol City Council’s Community Asset Management Grant to begin transforming their buildings and site for the future.

Driven by passion from an ambitious client and team, this project is an opportunity to ensure the long-term stability of the community asset. Together with the team at the Farm, we've been exploring how a new vision can tackle the building challenges while offering more for their growing community.

So far, we’ve looked back at past consultations and studies on accessibility, sustainability and equity to understand what matters most. We’ve been speaking in depth with staff and trustees over several months through surveys, workshops and one-to-one meetings.

The feedback from the engagement to date has shaped the masterplan brief, helping identify the spaces and improvements that will make the biggest difference. This approach has allowed us to develop the design collaboratively, ensuring that the masterplan reflects the voices, needs, and aspirations of those who use the Farm every day.

We will be hosting a number of community sessions over the coming months with the Farm’s visitors and stakeholders. The outcome of the consultation will inform more detailed proposals.

Our projects include the design of buildings for community groups and charities, affordable eco housing and hostels, low energy offices and commercial refurbishments.
