Steel Zero -research project
The practice is working for Energy Transitions Ltd to help develop Steel Zero, a form of solar heating cladding system. The system can be applied to existing or new buildings to significantly reduce heating loads; it works best on cold and clear days but could also be used in hot environments to run thermally-powered mechanical cooling equipment.
The stainless steel cladding comes in a range of colours and finishes with dark bronzes, golds, blues, greys and blacks increasing heat production. A test panel is currently collecting performance data in South Wales and we have designed a prototype pavilion, Coffee Zero, more on the construction of this soon.
Energy Transitions Ltd are also developing a VR visualisation tool to help communicate their product to clients and consultants.
