Wren Cottage

extension of a period cottage to help shape a family home

A substantial extension of a period cottage in Chapmanslade for the owner of Hart Construction. The proposed scheme went ahead after a successful planning appeal.

The brief was to create a home that all the family could enjoy. Features include a large new dining room and kitchen, with a full width opening bifold screen opening on to the garden.

The cottage still retains its original character with intimate spaces in the older parts of the house making use of the rich textures of the old brickwork, open fires and warm decor. Linking the old and new parts of the building is a feature stair made with huge timber treads.

The house boasts excellent energy performance through high levels of insulation, roof mounted solar PV panels all supported by wood burning stoves that make use of timber from the substantial garden.

Our projects include the design of buildings for community groups and charities, affordable eco housing and hostels, low energy offices and commercial refurbishments.
